Plato – Quotations

Lucia Valente – May 2020

I like to read a wide range of books; from some of the earliest Western writers that survive to modern sci-fi fiction.

Recently I re-read Plato’s ‘Republic’ one of the most influential and significant books in Western Philosophy and Political Science.

Re-reading this inspiring book as a mature adult, specifically in these uncertain times provides a sense of the breadth of history and philosophical thought.

I came across this web site that incorporates many quotations from philosophers and thinkers – those who have influenced Western thought for thousands of years.  Plato’s wisdom is still relevant almost 2,500 years later.

The selection of the quotation in the attached links:

Be kind because everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle

The price good men pay for indifference is to be ruled by evil men

Education is teaching our children to desire the right things

In politics we presume that everyone who knows how to get votes knows how to administer a city or state.  When we are ill…we do not ask for the handsomest physician or the most eloquent one

People are like soil, they can either nourish you and help you grow as a person, or they can stunt your growth and make you wilt and die
